Rex Melanson
Of Bridgewater. We the family of Rex, are very sad to announce his passing at home on Tuesday December 4 2012 at the age of 81. Rex, originally from Mill Village was a son of the late Sandy and Cassie (Boland) Melanson of Mill Village. Rex is survived by his son Donald, Dayspring; Step daughter Donna (Lawrence) Aucoin, Grandson Nicholas Aucoin, all of Halifax; Brother Roger “Rod” Melanson, Mill Village; Predeceased by his life companion Muriel Frank. Brothers, Russell. Royce “Hap”, and Robert. Sisters Sandra Seamone, Muriel LaDesRosiers, Marlene Melanson, Madge Melanson. Rex served in the Royal Canadian Air Force for 21 years with various postings through Canada, and Europe. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion for 45 years, and most recently a 21year member with Branch #24, Bridgewater, where he was known for his talent in throwing darts at least twice a week for the last number of years. Rex was also a member of Royal Canadian Air Force Association for many years. Rex also had a second career, working for a number of years at Riverport Sea Foods/ FPI following his military career. Anyone who is anyone, and knew Rex Melanson knows his passion and love for animals, whether it be pigeons, ducks, cats or any poor animal that needed a bite to eat. Rex was an avid animal lover. Rex will be greatly missed by all that knew him. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Sweeny’s Funeral Home, Bridgewater. There will be no visiting hours by request. A Memorial service along with a Legion Tribute Service will be held at 2pm Saturday (December 8th 2012) in Sweeny’s Funeral Chapel, Bridgewater, with Rev. Vivian Moores officiating.
