Obituary of S. James Rudolph
S. James Rudolph
It is with profound sadness that the Rudolph family announces the passing of S. James (Jim) Rudolph, 87, of Bridgewater, on Wednesday, February 15, 2012, at South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater. Born on June 9, 1924, in Shelburne, Jim was the son of the late Samuel James and Mildred (Bower) Rudolph. Since 1944 Jim was a proud member of the Canadian Army University Corps at Acadia University. A thirty-seven year career civil servant, Jim was a chartered accountant and the Province of Nova Scotia’s Civil Service Commissioner, retiring from the Public Utilities’ Board in November 1983. Jim recently received his 65th year bar from the Masonic Lodge in Shelburne, of which he was past Master. From 1981-1989 Jim was a member of the Board of the South Shore Exhibition, serving as Secretary and as President. Perhaps his most memorable years were spent raising Simmental beef cattle at the farm on the Charlie Hill Road in Farmington. His retirement was a time of joy and adventure as Jim and Barbara travelled extensively in their Airstream throughout North America as members of the Wally Byam Caravan Club. Jim held a number of offices in the Canadian Atlantic Unit of this Club. During his later years, Jim really enjoyed attending the Bridgewater Carving Club, and much appreciated the help given to him by the members. Jim is survived by his loving wife, Barbara (Saunders); his children, Dorothy (Roy) Evans, Grand Bank, NL, Tom (Debby), Bedford; Dan (Janet), Brookside; John (Wendy), Dartmouth; grandchildren Jamie, Gary, Gwen, Julie (Greg) Monette, Hilary and Joel, and nieces and nephews. Jim was predeceased by two sisters, Doris (John) Achtymichuk, and Phyllis (Karl) Nicol. No visitation at the funeral home by request. Memorial service to be held Sunday, February 19 at 2 pm at Bridgewater United Church, Rev. Ivan Norton officiating , followed immediately by a reception at the C.E. Centre. Family flowers only. Memorial donations may be made to Bridgewater United Church, 87 Hillcrest Street, Bridgewater. B4V 1T2. On line condolences may be made by visiting www.sweenysfuneralhome.com.
