Obituary of Ruth Annette Saunders
Ruth Annette Saunders
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our dearly beloved Mother, Annette Saunders (Ruth Annette Sarty), 71, on February 12, 2012. She passed peacefully at home with her family by her side. Annette was born on November 8, 1940 at Dawson Memorial Hospital, Bridgewater. Annette attended the VG School of Nursing and graduated in 1962. She has remained in constant communication with her classmates throughout the years. While in nursing school, Annette met Kenneth Hamilton and they married. From this unity came 3 daughters: Kelty Lynn, Deborah Kim and Jill Andrea. She was a devoted mother and wife who loved her family and who raised her girls with gentle guidance and support into adulthood, when her roll changed to became not only mother, but best friend. After raising her family, Annette returned to school and work and eventually became Director of Care at Armview Estates in Purcell’s Cove, where she worked for 10 years. She was then called home to the South Shore to care for her aging parents, until their passing. Annette was passionate about many things but she had a top 3 list : Family - grandchildren, friends and her beloved game of golf. Annette golfed throughout her adult life but it was in her later years that it became her passion, along with the deep friendships that came with it. She was a member of the Lunenburg Golf Course and most sunny days (and even some rainy days) between April and October, she could be found there perfecting her swing, laughing and enjoying in the camaraderie of her friends. Annette also reveled in her friendships with her “aerobics girls”. Annette is survived by her former husband, Kenneth (Irene) Hamilton, Beaver Bank; daughters, Kelty Hamilton, Bridgewater; Debbie Hamilton, Liverpool; Jill (Karl) Noble, Chester; grandchildren, Jeffrey, Owen and Bella; brother Trevor (Joanne) Sarty and Wayne (Madeleine) Sarty, Aunts Celia and Lela and nephews and nieces. She is predeceased by her parents Calvin and Muriel Sarty of Middlewood. The family wishes to extend our eternal gratitude to the South Shore Regional Hospital's Palliative Team, especially noting the caring, compassion and gentle guidance given by Dr. Dave Abriel and Louise Blackie, Palliative Nurse. Also instrumental were VON Canada and Home Care Support. A service will be held 11 a.m., Saturday, February 18, 2012 at Sweeny’s Funeral Chapel, Bridgewater. Rev. Paul Jensen officiating with burial at a later date. Family flowers only, donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or Lunenburg Golf Club.
