Obituary of Frederick Charles Townsend
Frederick Charles Townsend
Of Bridgewater / Halifax. It is with deep sorrow that David and Linda advise the passing of their beloved father, Frederick Charles Townsend, on August 25 at South Shore Regional Hospital. Dad was born on August 3, 1922 in Sydney, NS. He was a son of George and Lena (Thompson) Townsend. He loved dearly his wife, Winnifred (Winnie) Sarah who predeceased him. Our dad was a caring and considerate person who always had time for family and others. There are so many words that can describe our father but most would summarize him as a prince of a man. He will be sorely missed by all and we are happy that he will finally be reunited with Winnie. He is survived by his children, David and wife Valerie Townsend of Bridgewater; Linda and husband Jim Miller of Calgary; grandson Geoffrey (wife Mary with great-grandson Angus) Tokyo; grandson Gregory (wife Taru with great granddaughter Iliaana) Edmonton; step grandson Scott Crocker (spouse Tracy and step great grandsons Damien, Tyler, and Mason) Enfield; Joseph Crocker (wife Lorena with step great grandson Mateo) Ottawa; and special niece, Christina Begley, Hamilton, also numerous nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his siblings, Parker, Marion, Gerald, and Edith and survived by his brother, Ross. He began his working life with Eastern Drug (formally known as National Drug), which was interrupted by World War II when he served his country with the RCAF, after which he returned to Eastern Drug until his retirement. He was a member of St. Andrew’s Lodge of Cape Breton for 55 years, the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite, and the Shriners Philae Temple. He served as Potentate in Philae Temple in 1979. He was active in the church and served for 20 years as a warden at St Matthias Anglican Church in Halifax. He resided at Harbour View Haven, Lunenburg for the past 5 and half years. Special thanks are due to the staff at Harbour View Haven. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Sweeny’s Funeral Home, Bridgewater. A Celebration of Life service will be held Friday August 31, 2012 at 1pm, in Sweeny’s Funeral Chapel, 60 Phoenix Street Bridgewater. Eucharist Minister Vernon Mossman officiating. Family flowers only. No visitation by request. Donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice or to Shriners’ Philae Temple Crippled Children Travel Fund, PO Box 9050 Station A, Halifax, NS, B3K 5M7.
