Beverley John Corkum
77, Bridgewater, Lunenburg Co., passed away peacefully with his loving family by his side at South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater on Thursday, May 2, 2013. Beverley was born on March 3, 1936 in Pleasantville, to Lillian Corkum, Bridgewater and the late Douglas Corkum. Beverley went to sea at an early age with Shell Oil and sailed much of South America and the Great Lakes before returning to Bridgewater where he worked in the automotive industry and as an engineer at the former Dawson Memorial Hospital, Bridgewater. He enjoyed meeting people and won awards for his customer service which he took great pride in. In his early years he volunteered as a boy scout and cub leader and was a lifelong active member of Holy Trinity Anglican Church, Bridgewater. He and Dawn enjoyed their volunteer service with Meals on Wheels. He was a kind and gentle man who placed his family first. Beverley was taken from us much too soon. He will be forever loved and always missed. Surviving are his loving wife of 56 years, Dawn (Oickle); daughters, Ann (Garry) Doyle, PEI; Rosanne, Bridgewater; son, John (Kim Walsh), Nfld; daughter in law, Melanie, Nfld; his precious grandchildren, Michelle (Andrew), Jordan Falls; Stephanie (Matthew), Timberlea; Brittany (Kyle), Halifax; Rebecca, Sara and grandson, Coady, all of Nfld; step grandson, Desi (Bethany) Doyle, PEI; also surviving are sisters, Betty Slauenwhite, Marjorie (Ron) Silver; brother, Harold (Marjorie); sister in law, Theresa Corkum and maternal aunt, Mae Stevens as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his father, Douglas and brother, Earle. Visitation 7-9 p.m., Sunday in Sweeny’s Funeral Home, Bridgewater. Funeral service 2 p.m., Monday, May 6, 2013 in Holy Trinity Anglican Church, Bridgewater. Rev. Alvin Westgate and Rev. Fran Boutilier officiating. Reception to immediately follow in the church hall. Private interment at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to The Lodge that Gives, Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia, Holy Trinity Anglican Church.
