Obituary of Mary Lillian Cormier
Mary Lillian Cormier (Rafuse)
94 of Bridgewater, passed away Friday 7 June 2013. Born in Conquerall Mills on February 14, 1919, a continuous Valentine's Day gift, peacefully made her way to heaven from Harbour View Haven in Lunenburg. She was the daughter of the late Mary and Joseph Rafuse. Mother was predeceased by her spouse Amos, brother Joseph, son-in-law Samuel. Surviving are her children Robert (Dona), Carol Ann Wiscombe, Leon (Patricia), David (Linda); Grandchildren Dona Nickerson (Jamie), Deanna Boutilier (Brent), Dawn Nicholas (Shawn), Mark Wiscombe (Sandra), Michele, Kimberly, Rene and Robert Cormier; Great-grandchildren Kevin, Samantha, Brooklyn, Jordan, Alex, Dakota, Xavier; Great-great-grandchildren Brooklyn, Miley and Kasey. Mothers dedication to her children was first and for most. Her Sacrifices and family first attitude set and extremely high objective for her offspring. Mother loved humor and long discussions on any subject. Her list of old friends spanned many years and locations as she moved from home to Halifax, to Joggins, Toronto and back to Bridgewater, She loved to knit and sew, making many items even toys for her ever growing family. Her grandchildren were her second life, as they wore the clothes she made and entertained her during extended stays. Mother was also a dedicated care giver. She worked in hospitals in the valley before going to Camphill hospital to provide physical and emotional support to the military members returning from World War Two. While raising her children many neighbors reached out to her for assistance for family members who were faced with medical and aging issues. The maturing of her children allowed her to return full time to providing for others. Her years of employment at LaHave Manor were during a time of change. Locking away individuals who needed emotional and physical assistance was no longer acceptable. The norm became maximizing each individual’s abilities and integrating them back into a rewarding life style. Mother's greatest years were served as Senior Councilor of one of the first Group homes dedicated to accomplish this goal. The family wishes to extend a sincere thank you to the staff of Harbour View Haven. Mother was provided a high standard of care and comfort each day by the dedicated staff. The return of a gift she gave to so many others. There will be no visitation at the Funeral Home. Funeral Mass will be held 11:00 a.m., Wednesday 12 June in St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, Bridgewater, Father Jim MacDonald, OMI officiating. A private family burial will follow in St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Cemetery, Bridgewater. Family flowers only, please.
