Earle Hughie Croft
82 of West Dublin, Lunenburg County, passed away Friday March 29, 2013 in South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater, after a short period of failing health. Born in New Cumberland April 2, 1930 he was the eldest son of the late Kenneth and Winnifred (Corkum) Croft. He was very well known is his own and surrounding communities being affectionately known as the “Wood Man”, and having his many friends stop by the wood pile for a “good yarn” and have a chat about the daily events. In early years he was employed by the Dept. of Highways and Acadia Construction, and was always ready lend a helping hand whenever he could. Working on his woodlots and gardening were part of his daily routine for many years. He is survived by sisters Eula (Mansfield) Hirtle, West Dublin; Sandra Frank, Whynott’s Settlement; brother Wendell, Dartmouth; nephews Blake (Yvonne) Hirtle, Wileville; Douglas (Barbara) Frank, Brampton, Ontario; nieces Catherine (Stephen) Dunn, Porter’s Lake; Karen (William) Reford, Gilford Ontario; Carla (Michel) Robichaud, Moncton NB, Crystal Croft, Truro; Laurel Croft, Sydney River. Funeral directions are entrusted to Sweeny’s Funeral Home, Bridgewater. Visitation will be held 7:00 to 9:00 P.M., Tuesday 2 April in Sweeny’s Funeral Chapel, Bridgewater and from where the funeral service will be held 11:00 A.M., Wednesday 3 April, Rev Neil McEwen officiating. Private family burial will follow in Brookside Cemetery, West Dublin. Memorial donations in Earle’s memory may be made to the LaHave Fire Department, the Petite Riviere Fire Department, West Side United Church or the charity of choice.
