Obituary of Raymond Wayne Frazee

FRAZEE, Raymond Wayne - Age 77 of Bridgewater, passed away Saturday, October 12, 2013 in the South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater. Born in Bear River, he was the son of the late Bernard and Margaret (Raymond) Frazee.

After graduating from Digby Rural High School he enlisted in the Canadian Army, serving in a number of locations in Canada and more than a year with the Canadian Commonwealth Contingent, special duty area Korea. Following military service he moved to Bridgewater in 1958, where he was employed for 33 years, retiring in 1991. He was a member of the Bridgewater Mic Mac Rod & Gun Club from 1959 until his death, serving four years as Secretary, one year as President and later seven years as Treasurer. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Br. #24 Bridgewater, serving a total of 23 years on the Executive, including two terms as President and later seven years as Treasurer. He was awarded a Life membership in 1983 and the Meritorious Service Medal (MSM) in 1994.

Moving to Bear River, his original hometown in 2000 where he transferred to Br. #22 and served on that Branch Executive for five years including three years as President. He was awarded the Palm Leaf to his MSM in 2003, returning to reside in Bridgewater in 2007, he transferred back to Br. 24 and during 2011 he was appointed Honorary Treasurer on Br. 24. During his teen years he was an outstanding hockey player but injuries received prior to and during military service ended his playing days. He was a noted pitcher in the Bridgewater & District Fastball League for ten years. He later turned to Golf and became a low handicap golfer. He coached a hockey team in the Bridgewater Minor Hockey Association during the 1973-74 season, winning the Nova Scotia PeeWee (age 11-13) title as head coach.

He loved the outdoors and was an ardent trout fisherman, spending much of his leisure time fishing and canoeing the lakes and streams of Western Nova Scotia.

Besides his parents he was predeceased by a younger sister, Sharon (Woodworth).

He is survived by his many years, friend and companion, Phyllis Varner, Bridgewater; sister Sandra (Murphy), Fort Smith, N.W.T. A.; daughter, Lisa (Robbie) Murphy, Bridgewater; grandson, Brendon and great granddaughter, Elizabeth; a number of nieces and nephews.

Cremation has taken place under the direction of Sweeny’s Funeral Home, Bridgewater. A public Legion Memorial Tribute will take place 2 p.m. Friday, October 18 in the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 24, Bridgewater. Burial will be at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or any charitable organization.
