Obituary of F. Aileen MacKay
Florence Aileen Margurite (Trethewey) MacKay
It is with deep sadness that we the family announce the peaceful passing of our cherished and much loved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Aileen MacKay on July 31, 2013. She was the youngest daughter of the late John and Laura (Wentzell) Trethewey. Aileen was born in New Germany on April 15, 1920, and was a lifetime resident of New Germany. She was a dedicated member of Epworth United Church for 73 years and a longtime member of the UCW. Over the years she enjoyed many games of bridge with friends as well as being a part of the dart and bowling leagues. She was an accomplished seamstress, quilter and painter, gardener and loved to travel. She volunteered for many community organizations including the Girl Guides, Red Cross, the Lenten Soup Kitchen, New Germany Fire Department, and the Cancer Society. Her family was the light of her life, and she will be deeply missed and always remembered with love and fond memories. Her deep faith was always her foundation. Aileen was the loving mother of Debby (John), Upper Northfield; Wally (BC) and Billy (deceased). She is survived by grandchildren Jothan MacKay BC, Heather Gatza (Peter), Sackville, Julie Soanes (Kelly), Sackville and Matthew (Mellissa), Kentville and great-grandchildren Kaitlyn and Vicki Gatza, Keallach, Lachlan, Ailie and Cian Soanes, Jacob, Jackson and Laila MacKay; step great grandchildren Natasha and Nathan Gatza. She was predeceased by her husband, William Owen, son Billy, brother Reginald and sister Phyllis (Grimm). There will be no visitation. A memorial service to celebrate Aileen’s life will be held in the Epworth United Church, New Germany at 2:00 P.M., Monday 5 August, Pastor Bethe Benjamin-Cameron officiating. Cremation has taken place at Aileen’s request, under the direction of Sweeny’s Funeral Home, New Germany. A private family interment will take place in Epworth Cemetery. Family flowers only and donations in Aileen’s memory may be made to Epworth Cemetery Fund, New Germany or a charity of choice. Online condolences may be made by visiting www.sweenysfuneralhome.com.
