Obituary of Peter Martin Roberts

Peter Martin Roberts Those we love don't go away, They walk beside us every day, Unseen, unheard, but always near, Still loved, still missed and very dear. It is with saddened hearts that the family of Peter Martin Roberts, Bridgewater, announce his passing after a short journey with cancer. Peter passed away February 2, 2013 at South Shore Regional Hospital surrounded by love, just 10 days shy of his 59th birthday. Peter was the beloved and only child of Marjorie and Lloyd Roberts of Bridgewater. He was predeceased by both of his parents and his stepson Tony Hamilton. He is survived by his wife, the longtime love of his life, Lynn (Campbell), his daughter Amy (Peter Doane), grandchildren Brandon and Brooke-Lynne, his son Matthew (Karen), grandchildren Jack, Zander, and Madelyn, and his first wife, Shirley Oickle. He had many good friends, colleagues, and acquaintances – far too many to mention, but two especially good buddies were Terry Brown and David Craft. Peter was and always will be a proud father and grandfather. He loved the fact that all of his family lived so close by. It was common for him to ‘drop in’ for a visit on almost a daily basis to see whoever happened to be home at the time. If he didn’t show up that day, they would ask “I wonder where Dad is today?” This was one of his ways of showing how much he meant to them and how much he loved them. Peter was a good dad to his children and a wonderful Grampy to all of his grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by them and his wife Lynn- he will always have a large place in all their hearts. Even though Peter didn’t have any other siblings he surrounded himself with many good friends and extended family throughout his lifetime. Those who knew him, knew him well. Those who loved him, did so deeply. In his earlier days Peter worked for a number of years at Michelin and then left to try his hand at other ventures. He lived and worked in Halifax for a while, and although it didn’t last, that was okay, because it was where he met the love of his life, Lynn. Peters roots were in Bridgewater, so after the death of his mom, he returned to small-town-living where he would live out the rest of his days with Lynn in the home he grew up in, surrounded by family, good neighbors, and friends. Peter worked in car sales for many years at Queens Chrysler and most recently at Saunders Motors. He strived throughout his sales career to not just sell vehicles, but to help people invest in something they would love to own and drive. He was proud of the work he did, knowing that in his own way he was helping others. He loved anything with a motor and enjoyed boating, cars, and watching NASCAR with the guys. Garage night won’t be the same without him. He loved to downhill ski and water ski – although not always with actual skis. Sometimes it was just a board, and sometime it was with nothing at all! He was an active member of the LaHave River Yacht Club, serving a term as a Commodore, and, for many years he was the lead organizer of their popular ‘poker run.’ A love of socializing and meeting new people was something Peter seemed to inherit from both his mom and dad. Peter was no stranger to hard work and was quick to lend a hand to family, neighbors, and friends alike. The special care and attention he lovingly gave to his long time neighbor, Marguerite Zwicker, will be deeply felt, but his son Matthew and grandson Brandon will do their best to fill the big shoes Peter’s death has left behind. Peter loved a gathering of kindred spirits, so a fitting tribute would be to honor him and his passing with a gathering that is filled with good friends, refreshments, his favorite music, and the love and laughter from the family, friends, and colleagues he loved so much. Due to the winter storm forecast to arrive this weekend the service honoring his life has been advanced to 1:00 to 3:00 P.M., Friday, 8 February. It will still be held at the far end of the Bridgewater Curling Club, 90 Dominion Street, Bridgewater.
