Obituary of Florence Shute
Florence Shute
Of Waterloo Lunenburg Co. also known too many as Flowie or Floss passed away May 23, 2013 at the South Shore Regional Hospital in Bridgewater N.S. after a 2 year battle with Lung Cancer at the age of 67. Florence was born May 31, 1946 in Halifax N.S and was the proud daughter of the late Maurice and Meta Casey. Florence was raised in The Hydrostones with her 3 siblings where together they created many stories and great memories living and working at the family owned business The Hydrostone Market in Halifax. Florence was married in Halifax on September 16 1967 to Robert (Bob) Shute and they soon began one of her greatest achievements in her life, working on her lifelong career as a mom, grandmother and a Great Grandmother. Colby Village became home for her and her family and over the years many more lifelong friendships were found and maintained until her passing. Florence and Bob moved to Bridgewater NS in 2009 and made that home. Florence was known to everyone for her kind, caring and gentle spirit who focused her life on her family and friends. She has a huge “Cape Breton family” who she cherished and loved so very dearly and it was important to her to make sure you knew you were always in her thoughts and conversations until the end of her time. Florence is survived by her loving and caring husband Robert Shute who was there by her side every step of the way. Children Gary Shute; Kathy Madore and husband (Graham); Granddaughter Kathleen and Taylor Madore and Great Grandson Kayo Petty, sister Heather Penny, who has always been by her side; brothers Gordon and Brian Casey along with many nieces, nephews and cousins. In accordance to Florence’s wishes cremation has taken place and there be no visitation or service. A private family interment will take place at a later date. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Sweeney’s Funeral Home, Bridgewater. As many of us are aware Florence was also battling Huntington disease and it was her wish that everyone take some time and make themselves aware of this disease. Information can be found at www.huntingtonsociety.ca and in lieu of flowers donations can be made to The Huntington Society of Canada. A very special mention needs to be said to Rosie Gillis who always brought fun and laughter to her life as well as the odd rum and coke! Thank you to Dick and Bev Miller for your special friendship and the daily hot chocolate and hospital visit. Thank you so much to all the staff at the Cancer Centre in Halifax and the nurses and doctors on the 4th floor at the South Shore Regional Hospital who so lovingly cared for her during her final days at the hospital and most importantly our father Bob who took such great care of her during her battle with cancer and Huntington disease it was never an easy journey and your strength and love for her is an inspiration and will never be forgotten.
