Obituary of Belford Everett Voegelin

Belford Everett Voegelin 87, passed away on September 27, 2013 at Bridgewater, Nova Scotia. It is with heartfelt joy that Belford has been reunited with his first wife, Mary Elizabeth. He will be forever missed by those left behind. Son of Mathilda Gebert and Arthur Voegelin, he is fondly remembered by his devoted wife, Marguerite; his children, Belford (Betty), Richard (Yvette), Patrick (Karen), Joanna (Hervé) Audet, Claire (Richard) Grigg and step daughter, Donna (David) Swatridge. Cherishing his memory are his grandchildren, Christopher (Renee), Michelle and Mark Voegelin; Paul Snider, Janna Sproule, Dawn Snider, and Joe Groves, Nickola and Lindsay Voegelin, Chad Voegelin, Carey (Jamie) Herron, Tyler and Kayla Hall; Stephane (Lisa), Patrick (Taylor), Paul and Christine Audet; Nicci (Kelvin) Chow, Aaren and Emerson Grigg, Luke and Laura Swatridge, as well as numerous great grandchildren. Belford is predeceased by his first wife, Mary Elizabeth (Sommerville); daughter in law, Catherine Voegelin and step grandson, Rod Snider. Belford served in the US Army during World War II in Europe and as a military honour guard at the Palace of Justice in Nurnberg, Germany in 1946. After the war, his work in insurance took him to Syracuse, NY; Omaha, Nebraska and London, Ontario. As an entrepreneur, he built the first marina complex in Port Stanley, Ont. In the early seventies, Bel and M.E. adopted Dublin Shore, Nova Scotia as the site of their dream project, Dublin Bay House, fine dining restaurant until 1991. An avid outdoorsman, Belford enjoyed the camaraderie of friends at fishing camps as well as competing in Ontario sailing races. He had a great knack for woodworking and enjoyed crafting pieces for this family. Special thanks are extended to the VON Lunenburg County, South Shore Regional Hospital staff and Dr. Tim Riding for their care and compassion during his illness. A memorial service will take place at a later date in London, Ontario. If you wish, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of choice.
