Obituary of Merceno Grace Walker

Merceno Grace Walker Age 89, of Bridgewater, formerly of Halifax, passed away July 9, 2013 in Ryan Hall Nursing Home, Bridgewater. Born in Halifax, she was the daughter of John and Sophia (Romo) Morris. In her earlier years, Grace worked with retail at Mills Brothers in Halifax. Grace was gifted with an inquisitive mind and a wide subject interest, and it was a pleasure to share a conversation with her. She was talented in countless areas and produced many beautiful needlepoint and pottery works. Although Grace was an excellent cook in her own right, she enjoyed and completed the ‘Cooking with a Foreign Flare’ course through Halifax’s Continuing Education system. All in all, Grace recognized and was true to her calling and vocation in life – to be a devoted wife and mother and she served her role tirelessly and with love. Grace is survived by her faithful and caring only child, Jon Walker, Bridgewater. She is also survived by her sisters, Elaine Nixon, Halifax; Lorraine Baldwin, Delta, BC; Anna Morris, Halifax; brother, John Morris, Halifax. Grace was predeceased by her husband of 66 years, Leo; sister, Marie and brother, Peter. Grace's remains will be at Saint Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, 123 Pleasant Street, Bridgewater, where visitation will take place on Monday July 15, 2013 where at 12 noon, the Knights of Columbus will serve as Honour Guard. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:30 p.m., Monday, July 15 in Saint Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, with Rev. Father Jim MacDonald, O.M.I. officiating, assisted by Rev. Mr. Patrick Morris, Q.C. Interment will take place in Saint Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery, Saint Phillips Street, Bridgewater. Following the interment a reception will be held in Saint Joseph’s Parish Centre. Family flowers only please, donations may be made to Saint Joseph’s Memorial Fund or Shaid Animal Shelter.
