Obituary of Marie Arlene Wentzell
Marie Arlene Wentzell (Hamm)
Of Bridgewater passed away suddenly at the QEII Infirmary on Monday, April 8th. Born September 10, 1931 in Mader’s Cove, Nova Scotia, she was the daughter of the late Aaron Aubrey Hamm and the late Helen Arlene (Lantz) Hamm. She spent most of her childhood in Halifax and upon achieving her Pharmacy Certificate worked at the Stadacona Pharmacy and MacKay’s Pharmacy. In June 1958, she met the love of her life, Keith Vincent Wentzell whom she married that September. She has since lived in Bridgewater, working as a pharmacist at MacKay’s Pharmacy and Shopper’s Drug Mart before retiring in 1992. Mom & Dad loved sailing at the cottage in West Dublin until his death in 1985. Much of her life was dedicated to volunteering including serving as Chairs of the Desbrisay Museum Board and the N.S. Rug Hooking Guild, and more recently working at the South Shore Regional Hospital Gift Shop. Never busier than when she retired, she loved to travel and spend Thursday mornings with her fellow rug hookers. The greatest joys of her life, however, were her 5 grandchildren; Amy, Aaron and Andrew Lowe, and Janelle and Sydney LaLeune who will dearly miss the best Nanna in the world. To the daughters she leaves behind, Joanne (Daryl) Lowe and Nancy (Frank) LaLeune, she was the most caring and supportive mother one could hope for, an unbelievably strong and selfless human being. We have not only lost our mother but our best friend as well. We would also like to thank all her dear close friends for their many years of love, friendship and support. Our most heartfelt thanks to Dr. LeGare and nurses Courtney and Jim in the QEII CICU for their compassion. We cannot express how grateful we are to Pastor Willis Ott for once again helping us as only he could. Visitation will be held 7:00 to 9:00 P.M., Thursday 11 April in Sweeny’s Funeral Home, Bridgewater. Funeral service will be held 11:00 A.M., Saturday April 13 in St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Rev. Willis Ott officiating. Private family burial will follow in Brookside Cemetery, Bridgewater. Family flowers only, please. Memorials in Marie’s memory may be made to the Health Services Foundation of the South Shore or to the charity of choice. Online condolences may be made by visiting www.sweenysfuneralhome.com.
