Obituary of Lowell J. Britten

Lowell J. Britten 56 Of Bridgewater/Sydney. It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of our loving father, grandfather, brother and friend to many, Lowell J. Britten, age 56, on Monday, February 3, 2014 in Bridgewater, NS. Born in Arichat, Cape Breton, Lowell was the son of the late Lloyd and Mathilda (LeJeune) Britten of Sydney. He is survived by his daughter Sherri (Mike) Bennett, and his only grandchild Tristan of Lingan, NS; brothers Mike (Valerie), Big Pond, NS, Matt (Shelley), Bridgewater, NS, and Frank (Carol Ann), New Market, NB; very special friend, Monique Gaudet of Bridgewater; many nieces and nephews. Lowell was a graduate of Riverview Rural High School and had obtained his Degree of Physical Education from ST. F.X. University in 1979. He was retired from a career with Hostess Frito-Lay where he was employed for over 30 years, serving areas including much of industrial Cape Breton, the Highalnds, Truro, Halifax, and Bridgewater. Lowell loved anything to do with the great outdoors and riding, but his pride and joy was Sherri. Lowell was a great dad to Sherri and was most proud of her and his “little man” Tristan. Whether it was hunting with Jim in Iona, not catching partridge with Frank in NB, mackeral fishing off any available wharf, storm chasing across the Valley and South Shore, or exploring country roads with his camera, Lowell was always enjoying these moments with a smile on his face and a twinkle in his eye. Lowell appreciated the small things in life; family, freedom, and the adventure of exploring. A great friend, an excellent driver, and an avid biker, Lowell’s passion was his motorcycle and he used it to explore. There was no road not worth wandering or place too secluded. He was always up for an adventure to make special memories with family and friends. He was a natural biker, a great teacher, and the best “Uncle Duck” anyone could have. He was a source of strength and support for many, a friend that will be missed and valued by all. Lowell was taken far too early, but we are greatful for his life, his love, and his memory. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held at V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith Street, New Waterford on Friday, February 7th from 7-9 p.m. A funeral mass of celebration will take place Saturday, February 8th at 10 am in the Parish Church of St. Leonard, Mount Carmel Avenue, with Father Ray Huntley officiating. Burial will be in St. Jospeh Cemetery, Lingan. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or a charity of choice. Online expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family at: www.vjmcgillivray.ca. “I love you Daddy”
