Allan Clark Fleming
Age 72, died on November 26, 2014. He passed away peacefully at the South Shore Regional Hospital in Bridgewater, Nova Scotia. Allan was born in Scotland. He attended the University of Edinburgh and the University of Dundee, where he studied geology. He then travelled to Africa, carrying out field work for the University of Ibadan in Nigeria. In 1966, he joined a geological research team at the University of New Brunswick. He would later retire his lab coat, to study art at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design. He lived and worked in several Canadian provinces, including Manitoba and Ontario, before making his home in LaHave, Nova Scotia. He was a citizen of the world and a proud Canadian. Those who knew Allan will remember his intellect, kindness and creativity. He enjoyed sailing and he loved to dance. Chief among his many vocations, Allan was a teacher. He taught at Park View Education Centre and, later, New Germany Rural High School. His students were his greatest joy, and many became cherished friends during his retirement years. Allan will be missed dearly by his many friends and acquaintances. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 6, 2014, at St. James’ Anglican Church, 3603 Highway 331, LaHave, with the Reverend Oliver Osmond presiding. All are welcome. Memorial donations may be made to either the Dalhousie Medical Research Foundation or the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design.
