Lucy May Gunn
84, New Germany, Lunenburg Co., passed away in South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater on Friday, January 31, 2014. Born in New Germany, she was a daughter of the late Obediah and Louise (Fancy) Varner. Lucy lived life to its fullest and especially treasured spending time with family and friends. She enjoyed many activities, most recently bowling in the seniors’ league. Lucy also shared many fond memories of her experiences while working in the library at Harvard University and the original drugstore in New Germany. After enjoying many years living in Cape Breton, she moved to Halifax and then Bridgewater, before returning to her home place in New Germany. Surviving are her sister, Muriel Hicks, New Germany; step daughter, Susan MacNeil, Kelowna; step sons, W.D. “Sandy” Gunn (Kirsten), Peterborough; James Gunn (Sharon), Ingonish Beach; Michael Gunn, Edmonton; Peter Cunningham, Vancouver; step daughters in law Susan Gunn, Gloria Cunningham; step grandchildren, Debbie Mansfield, David Cunningham, Odessa Gunn, Shamus Gunn, Heather Labrie, Shannon Prithipaul, Michael McNeil, Katherine Melrose, Neil MacNeil, Rody MacNeil; nieces and nephews, Audrey Fancy, Judi Hiltz, Lucille Naugler, Allison MacKay, Gary Tipert, Christopher Tipert, Sandie Veinot, Lewis Sleep, Matthew Wright, Patricia Wentzell, Ann Gummeson, Stephen Hicks; several great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her first husband, Dr. Allister L. Cunningham, second husband, Alfred O. “A.O.” Gunn; sisters, Gladys Tipert, Helen Sleep, Hazel Wright, half sister, Hilda MacKay; brother, Robert Varner, half brother, Emerson Lowe; step sons, Alan Cunningham, George Cunningham, Bruce Gunn; niece Nina Lowe and nephews Aubrey Lowe, James MacKay, Clarke Tipert, Victor Sleep. Visitation 7-9 p.m., Monday, February 3 in Sweeny’s Funeral Home, 4895 route 10, New Germany. Funeral service 2 p.m., Tuesday, February 4 in St. John in the Wilderness Anglican Church, New Germany. Rev. Juanita Barteaux officiating. Private interment will take place at a later date in the church cemetery. Family flowers only, donations may be made to St. John in the Wilderness Anglican Church or charity of choice!.
