Murray Leonard Jodrie
Age 97, of Hebbville, Lun. Co., passed away with his family by his side on July 7, 2014 at Hillside Pines Nursing Home in Bridgewater. Born and raised in Nineveh, Lun. Co. he was educated at Mount Allison University and the Nova Scotia Normal College before becoming a teacher. He taught in numerous schools in Lunenburg County before he retired after thirty-five years. A kind and devoted family man, he was very involved in the community with the Bridgewater United Church where he served as Sunday School Superintendent and Elder. He was among the founding members of the Hebbville Fire Department and the Hebbville Village Commission. His passion was genealogy and he spent over thirty years researching his family roots that eventually led him to Europe (Montbeliard) where he met his distant family members who became quite close, traveling across the Atlantic to visit one another. He eventually wrote a book about his ancestors called “Faded Dreams in a New Land” and was instrumental, along with his cousin Paul Jodrey, in erecting a monument in Lunenburg honoring the families that immigrated from Montbeliard to Lunenburg in 1753. He was an avid camper belonging to the Seabreeze Campers for 44 years. Other hobbies included reading, gardening, and rock hounding. Murray is survived by his loving wife of nearly 61 years Mildred (Veinotte) Jodrie, son David (Shelley), grandsons, David (Janna) and Michael Jodrie, several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by parents, Stanley and Celetus (Silver) Jodrie. Visitation, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday in Bridgewater United Church, 87 Hillcrest Street, Bridgewater and where funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday. Rev. David Campbell officiating. A reception will follow the service in the C.E. Center. A private family burial will take place in Hebbville Cemetery, Hebbville.
