Obituary of Sylvia Marguerite Mahar
Sylvia Marguerite Mahar (Corning)
Passed away October 5 2014 in Liverpool, NS. Eldest daughter of the late Harry William Corning and A. Pearl (Wescott), Yarmouth Nova Scotia. Surviving is her daughter, Maureen Brickman, Houston TX; grandson, Aaron Jeremy Brickman, San Jose, CA; a very special niece Judith, and husband Harold Zwicker, Mill Village; nephews, Basil Anthony Jr., Mill Village; Stephen Anthony, Hammonds Plains; William Engwer Jr, Atlanta GA; and several other nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her former husband Gordon L. Mahar. Three sisters; Thelma (Bill)Engwer, TX,; Shirley (Norbert) Ehrenfreud, San Diego CA;, Edna (Basil Sr. ) Anthony, Mill Village. She attended the University of Huston, Texas, completing her Bachelor of Science degree at Acadia University. After teaching for 3 years (she was a third generation of Wescott women teachers), she completed her dietetic internship at Women’s College Hospital, Toronto, and worked at Queen May Veteran’s Hospital, and Torrent, and Central Alberta Sanatorium, Calgary. She worked at the Nova Scotia Sanatorium, Kentville; Jordan Memorial Sanatorium, The Meadows, NB, and East St. John Tuberculosis Hospital; then retiring from the East Veterans Wing of the St. John General Hospital. Funeral service will be held at Sweeny’s Funeral Home Bridgewater, on Friday October 10, 2014 at 11 am. Pastor Vic Adams officiating. A private interment will take place in her paternal grandparent’s lot of Thomas and Clara Wescott, in the Island Cemetery, Yarmouth Co. Family flowers only. By request there will no visitation at the funeral home. Memorial donations in Mrs. Mahar’s name may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
