Obituary of Dorothy Sarty

Dorothy "Dolly" Jewell Sarty-Wamboldt Was born in Lapland February 13, 1907. She passed away peacefully at home. Dolly is survived by her devoted and loving immediate family; nephew Bruce, wife Catherine, sister-in-law Frances and numerous nephews and nieces. She was predeceased by parents, Willard and Minnie, seven brothers, Laurier, William, Carroll, Leander, Dougald, Melbourne, Roger, husband Everett (Passed away 1989) and dear sister Marie (Passed away 1994). Dolly’s long and productive life was devoted to her family, friends, community and the wellbeing of creatures great and small. She was the co-founder of S.H.A.I.D. Animal Shelter and host of “Lost and Found Pets” radio show in Bridgewater for many years. Dolly twice received the Order of Canada for her work with St John’s Ambulance. She also received community service and humanitarian awards, far too numerous to mention. She was an avid curler, great horsewoman, excellent marksman and gifted speaker. During the Second World War, Dolly spent a year working in Bermuda at the British Admiralty Office where she personally decoded the message announcing Winston Churchill was arriving for top secret meetings. She will be sadly missed by her family and two devoted caregivers, Kathleen and Evelyn. Special thanks to Dr. Barbara Eisener. Funeral service will be held at the Bridgewater United Baptist Church, Saturday, August 17, at 11am. Family flowers only. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to S.H.A.I.D. Animal Shelter or the N.S. Heart and Stroke Foundation. Funeral arrangements entrusted to Sweeny’s Funeral Home, Bridgewater. www.sweenysfuneralhome.com
