Obituary of Raymond Wilfred Mitchell

Raymond Wilfred Mitchell March 15, 1932 – September 18, 2014 Ray died peacefully in his sleep at Harbour View Haven, Lunenburg, following years with Alzheimer’s and a recent serious fall. Ray is survived by his wife of 39 years, Mary (nee Sellers), his loving son and daughter-in-law, David and Trina (Lee) and his adoring grandchildren, Gabriel, Caleb and Eden. He will be truly missed. With a strong work ethic and values, Ray spent his entire 45 year career at McKinnon Heating Cooling, in Toronto, starting in the early 1950’s and working up to President and Owner by the 1990’s. Ray was a grateful recovering member of Alcoholics Anonymous, serving his group, district and area willingly. He would have celebrated 36 years of sobriety on September 20th. Retiring to Muskoka, Ontario in 1998, Ray was active in his church and community of Bala, golfing whenever possible with the Senior Mens’ League at Kirrie Glen. Moving to Bridgewater in 2010, Ray appreciated his apartment and life at Drumlin Hills, close to family. He spent hours each day walking along the trails and in the community, meeting new people along the way. He attended Bridgewater Baptist with his family and was happy to call this community his own. In early 2013, he stayed briefly at Roseway Manor in Shelburne, settling finally at Harbour View Haven, where the caregivers appreciated his good nature and sharp wit. The family is extremely grateful for their constant and compassionate care. A celebration of Ray’s life will be held at Bridgewater Baptist Church on Tuesday, September 23rd at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ray’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Society of Canada. .
