Obituary of Vernon Albert Oickle

Vernon Albert Oickle, Jr. Age 66, Bridgewater, Lunenburg Co., passed away on Thursday, December 18, 2014 in South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater. Born in Bridgewater, he was a son of the late Vernon Albert Oickle, Sr., and Viola Marjorie (Mailman) Oickle. For thirty years, Vernon was a school teach in Lockeport, Shelburne County. Vernon travelled extensively world-wide, including London, Italy, Spain and also Japan and what was then, communist Russia. Saying he was active is an understatement having been involved with Center Stage Theatre troupe, Kentville, life member of Winds of Change Drama Club, Liverpool and having also performed in the Japanese Theatre Festival, Japan. He served as president of the Bridgewater Gardening Club and Nova Scotia Garden Club, having been a horticultural judge for many events. He enjoyed ballroom dancing where he placed third in the Jr. Canadian Ballroom Dancing Championships in 1967. Vernon loved to sing, he was a member of South Shore Chorale, Maritime Concert Opera as well as St. Paul’s Lutheran church choir, where he was an active member in many church groups, councils, youth groups as well as many international youth gatherings. Surviving are his sister, Muriel Goguen, Smiths Cove; three nieces and three nephews. He was predeceased by sister, Barbara MacKay; brother, Bernon Albert Oickle in infancy. Visitation will be held 7:00 to 9:00 P.M., Sunday, December 28 in Sweeny’s Funeral Home, Bridgewater. Service to celebrate Vernon’s life will be held 11:00 A.M., Monday, December 29 in St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Bridgewater. Rev. Willis Ott officiating.
