Obituary of Frederick David Poole
Frederick (Fred) David Poole
Age 78, passed away Wednesday, December 10, 2014 in the QEII Health Sciences Centre, Halifax. Born to Bill and Helen (Kaiser) Poole in Halifax, April 12, 1936, Fred was the second son and younger brother to Donnie (Bridgewater) and older brother to Doug (predeceased). Growing up in Fairview, Fred attended Armdale High School and worked at the family business, Poole’s Bakery. While in school, he met his sweetheart and future wife, Willa Maude (Purdy – predeceased). Fred was always active in school and was president of the Student Council. Education was always important to Fred, and when the time came, he made his way to Mount Allison University to study Commerce, where he made lifelong friends with the “Gass Frat” boys. With his family by his side, Fred moved to the South Shore of Nova Scotia where he worked in the finance industry. Daughters Deborah Poole (Caroline Higgins), Maitland and Margaret (Roy) Jensen, Upper LaHave; and sons Carl Poole, South Rawdon; David (Jill) Poole, Hillsvale; Kenneth (Kelly) Poole, Milford, spent many years enjoying their family home in Upper La Have. Fred was active in the Bridgewater community, especially as a member of the Kinsmen Club and the IOOF. Music was always important to Fred and his wonderful voice could be heard at all family celebrations. Annual hunting trips with his buddies and summers at the cottage at Brule Point brought great laughter and enjoyment to his life. Fred took pride in his grandchildren, Andreas, Kenneth, Sarah, Matthew, Jonathon, Jason, Janette, Christopher, Alexandra, and Jill, and great grandchildren Willa, Toren, Robyn, Victor, Asa and Aiden, and many nieces and nephews. His love of chocolate and reading, thirst for knowledge, and famous cheeseball will be those things for which Fred will be remembered best. Visitation will be held from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 P.M., Saturday, December 13 at Sweeny’s Funeral Home, Bridgewater. Service will be held at Sweeny’s at 2:00 P.M., Sunday, December 14, with Rev. David Campbell officiating. A private family burial will follow at Dayspring Cemetery. Family flowers only, please.
