Edith Ione Richard
Age 77 of Pleasantville, Lunenburg Co., passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 17, 2014 in South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater. Born in Bridgewater, she was the youngest daughter of the late Victor and Mildred (Woodworth) Shankle of West LaHave, Nova Scotia. She was a graduate of the Victoria General Hospital nursing class of 59A and spent a 35 year career in bedside and supervisory nursing. She was a dedicated nurse and throughout her long career she treated patients and staff with highest respect. She remained deeply committed to nursing and caring for patients with kindness, compassion, understanding and love. She had a positive outlook on life and enjoyed life’s journeys living her life to the fullest. She showed her kindness and cheerful attitude and loyal companionship with family and friends. She enjoyed camping and the company of many friends around the campfire. She loved to travel with her late husband in their motorhome throughout Canada and the USA. After retirement they spent winters in Florida. She continued to take motor coach trips and each spring visited a Caribbean island with friends. She did volunteer work for her church and loved fire department functions. She took great pride in caring for her home, property and flower gardens. She was a member of St. Peter’s Anglican Church, West LaHave. Surviving are a sister, Reta Crouse, Lower Sackville; a sister in law, Norma Richard, Mahone Bay; and six nephews, Richard Crouse, Paul Crouse, David Roberts, Mark Richard, Todd Richard, Dale Clattenburg. She was predeceased by her husband of 47 years, Murray in 2007; a sister, Verda Roberts in 2010. Visitation will be 2-4 p.m. Monday, July 21 in Sweeny’s Funeral Home, Bridgewater. Funeral service will be held 2 p.m., Tuesday, July 22 in St. Peter’s Anglican Church, West LaHave with Rev. Oliver Osmond officiating. Private family interment will follow in the Pleasantville Cemetery, Pleasantville. Reception to follow in Pleasantville and District Fire Hall. Immediate family flowers only. Donations may be made to St. Peter’s Anglican Church building fund, Pleasantville and District Fire Department or charity of choice.
