Obituary of Gladys Rosabelle Russell
Gladys Rosabelle Russell (Gallion)
On Monday, May 19, 2014, at Shoreham Village in Chester, Gladys was surrounded by the love of her family when she began her journey for a life in heaven. Her family is greatly saddened to announce her passing. Gladys was born in Shelburne, May 15, 1929. She received her education at Shelburne Academy, and attended Normal College in Truro to pursue a teaching career. She taught in Queens, Lunenburg and Halifax County schools. She was an active member of Epworth United Church and served many years in the UCW group. For several years she and husband, Max, were part of the New Germany Cancer Society. She was proud to have been one of the founding members of the Laubach Literacy Program. Gladys was a patient and kind person who enjoyed quilting, reading, crocheting and being in her kitchen. She and Max loved to dance especially to their favorite band, “Special Blend,” and did so into their 80s. The family and guests were thrilled to watch them dance the last time at their youngest son’s wedding in 2011. Gladys’ family and friends were denied her wit and charm over the last number of years because of her affliction with dementia, but even through the illness she remained a gentle and graceful lady. Gladys’ husband of 64 years, Max, survives her, as well as daughter, Valerie (Richard Levy), Hebbville, and their children, Vance, Alison, Elliot; sons, Marcus (Brenda) Barss Corner, their children, Matthew, Marcie and Laura; Robert (Angela), Simpson’s Corner, their children Jennifer and Deven; Paul (Sue Ann), Black River, their children, Zachary, Keeley, Brody and Jory; Andrew (Kelly) Camperdown, and daughter, Kayla; Karl (Carol), New Germany. Sister, Elizabeth (Everette) Cromwell, Shelburne. Predeceased by, precious grandson Brandon (January 2007) brother, Richard Gallion, sister, Brenda MacIssac, mother Annabelle (Matthews) Gallion and step-father, James Gallion. As per Gladys’ wishes there will be no visitation or funeral. Gladys’ wish, if you desire to make a donation, would be to IWK Cancer Treatment of Brandon Russell, Canadian Diabetic Association or Epworth United Church in New Germany. Thank you for your kindness. The family wish to thank the Staff at Shoreham Village for their exceptional care and thoughtfulness. Online condolences may be made through sweenys@ns.sympatico.ca.
