Robert Basil "Bobby" Smith
Of Bridgewater, Lunenburg Co,. passed away peacefully at aged 75 surrounded by his family on Saturday, February 22, 2014. Born October 9, 1938 in Liverpool, he was a son of the late Newman and Daisy (Greek) Smith. He was an avid car enthusiast. An auto body repair man and mechanic by trade, he worked for several years in Halifax. After moving to Bridgewater, he owned and operated Robert’s Auto Body for 25 years. He specialized in frame straightening and trouble shooting. He spent many years enjoying camping trips and many other adventures with his family; his family was of the utmost importance to him. The highlight of his life was when he and Elizabeth drove to Alaska with their fifth wheel as well as their Alaskan cruise to celebrate their fiftieth anniversary! He was a member and elder at Bridgewater United Church, he also enjoyed volunteering at the Food Bank and with Meals on Wheels. He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Elizabeth (Crouse); children, Gail (Ralph) Dicks, Lower Branch; Grant (Cathy) Smith, Halifax; Glenda (Andrew) Cress, Musquodoboit Harbour; grandchildren, Daniel (Michelle) Wile, Adam (Danica) and Lucas Dicks, Mallary and Holly Smith, Jasmine, Emmaline, Amanda and Lillian Cress; great grandchild, Emma Dicks; brothers and sisters, Helena (Ron) Facey, Jerry (Evelyn) Smith, Susan Saunders (Toni), Bonita (David) Hirtle, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. Sincere thanks to all the home support care givers, the nurses and staff of South Shore Regional Hospital. Visitation will be 2-4 p.m., and 7-9 p.m., Wednesday, February 26, 2014 in Sweeny’s Funeral Home, Bridgewater. Funeral service will be held at 12:30 p.m., Thursday, February 27 in Bridgewater United Church, Bridgewater. Rev. Eleanor Scarlett officiating. Reception will follow in the United CE Centre. Interment will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery, Back Road, Cherry Hill. Family flowers only; donations may be made to Parkinson Society Maritime Region, South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater United Church or charity of choice.
