Obituary of Herbert Sidney Terris

Herbert Sidney Terris DUE TO THE WINTER STORM ARRIVING ON WEDNESDAY THE MEMORIAL SERVICE HAS BEEN RESCHEDULED FOR 11:00 AM THURSDAY JANUARY, 23 2014. 73, of Pentz, Nova Scotia was born on June 12, 1940 in Pictou Nova Scotia, passed away on January 17, 2014 at the Victoria General Hospital, Halifax after a short battle with lung cancer with loving family by his side. Herb was born in Pictou Nova Scotia, son of Herbert Terris and Ruth Conrad. He spent his younger years in Springhill Nova Scotia and then moved to Tatamagouche Nova Scotia where he completed High School then attended Mount Allison University where he studied Engineering. After moving to Ottawa where he continued his education and became a Certified General Accountant, earning a medal for the highest mark in Ontario in his Taxation course. Thirty years of his career was spent working for the Canada Revenue Agency. After retiring he started his own tax accounting business which he enjoyed until he became ill. Herb was a volunteer Fire Fighter with the Lahave and District Fire Department for ten years, as well as Treasurer for seven years. He was a dedicated member of the United Church of Canada, and for the past 17 years a member of West Side United Church, Pentz where he volunteered for all functions as well as serving in many positions, including being the Treasurer until his health declined. Herb loved to travel with Darlene to visit family in Ontario and in the past few years to Europe. He worked many hours creating a beautiful yard that surrounded their home in Pentz. Herb is survived by his wife Darlene; children Patricia (Peter), Ottawa; Pamela (Robert), Barrie; sisters: Marguerite Ross (Austin), Pentz, and Greta Terris, Amherst; brothers Richard Terris, New Minas; Doug (Jodie) Western Canada; grandchildren: Thomas, Jennifer, Samantha, Rianne, Regan; great grandchildren Owen, Paige, Ayva.; many extended family members. Besides his parents he is predeceased by sister-in-law Gail Terris and grandson Connor Conklin. A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, January 22, 2014 at West Side United Church at 11:00 AM with Rev. Neil McEwen officiating. By request, family flowers only but donations in honour of Herb may be made to West Side United Church (#2702 Highway 331, Pentz B0R 1G0), the Canadian Cancer Society, or charity of your choice.
