Obituary of Robert Douglas Barrie

Robert Douglas "Doug" Barrie Age 83 of Bridgewater passed away Thursday, November 26, 2015 in South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater. Born in Tugaske, Saskatchewan, he was a son of the late Wilbert and Gertrude (Hodgson) Barrie. Doug is survived by his wife of 59 years Ina; daughters, Karen (Marc) Bourgeois, Hebbs Cross; Janet Barrie, Hebbville; son, Todd (Cindy) Barrie, Bridgewater; grandchildren, Jenna Bourgeois, Chad Bourgeois, Kayla (Kyle) Zinck and Kyle Barrie along with many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his sisters, Dorothy Jose, Edith Varty and Jean Williams; brothers, Jack, Tommy, Ken and Phil Barrie. Doug enjoyed a 37 year career in the oil industry, working at BA in Moosejaw Sask, and Brandon Man., Gulf Oil in Point Tupper NS and Petro Canada in Edmonton Alta. Doug and Ina retired back to Nova Scotia in 1988 to be near their children and grandchildren. He devoted a great part of his life to the church community wherever he lived, performing just about every job available within the church at one time or another. Doug enjoyed curling and golfing in his leisure time and is fondly remembered by the many junior curlers he helped. He enjoyed travelling the world and spending time at their cottage in Guysborough County, NS. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Sweeny’s Funeral Home, Bridgewater. There will be no visitation by request. Funeral service will be held 11 a.m., Monday, November 30 in Holy Trinity Anglican Church, Bridgewater with Rev. Simon Davies officiating. A private family burial will be held in Garden of Rest Cemetery, Kentville. Family flowers only, please. Memorial donation may be made to Holy Trinity Anglican Church, Bridgewater.
