Phyllis Irene Bolivar
Age 86 of Conquerall Mills. It is with great sadness that her family announces the passing of Phyllis on Sunday, August 2, 2015 in Fishermen’s Memorial Hospital, Lunenburg with her loved ones by her side. Born in Conquerall Mills, on Sept. 14, 1928, she was the daughter of the late John and Jennie (Cross) Nowe. It was also in Conquerall Mills that Phyllis met her soul mate Stanley Bolivar. They married in 1944 and spent over 70 years together, until his passing earlier this year. Throughout her life Phyllis was a great lover of music, especially country and western. As a young woman, she loved to square dance, sing and play the guitar. For a number of years she was a member of the choir at St. James Anglican Church in Conquerall Mills. Even in the last few months of her life, on her rare “good” days, Phyllis would join in a song with some of her dearest friends. She was an avid gardener, be it vegetables or her beautiful gladiolas and peonies. She was an enthusiastic hostess, who made sure that no one left her table hungry. Her cooking and baking was well loved and she won many ribbons at the local exhibitions for her pickles, relishes and squares. She was an accomplished crafter whose knit afghans and sweaters that garnered many ribbons as well. Phyllis spent many hours volunteering in the community, raising money for the Hebbville High School Ways and Means committee when her daughter was a student. She was also well known for her tireless efforts to collect money for various charities. Phyllis is survived by her daughter Valerie and son-in-law Kevin Manley, New York; her devoted sister and brother-in-law, Pauline and Arnie, Pleasantville and several dear friends. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her sister, Frances. Visitation will be held 7 – 9 p.m., tonight, Wednesday August 5 in Sweeny’s Funeral Chapel, Bridgewater. Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday August 6, also in Sweeny’s Funeral Chapel, Rev. Willis Ott officiating.
