Obituary of Shirley Grace Brown
Shirley Grace Brown
Age 91, Bridgewater, passed away peacefully on June 28, 2015 following a brief illness with her family by her side. Born August 19, 1923 in Brockville, Ontario she was the only child of the late Seton James and Margot (Crawford) Montgomery. Upon moving to Halifax with her parents, she attended the Halifax Ladies College where she made many lasting friendships. In her youth, Shirley studied ballet at Madame Hilda's and was the lead dancer in many performances at the Capitol Theatre in Halifax. In 1946 she met the love of her life, Norman Leslie Brown. They were married in 1949 and were together for the next 62 years until his passing in 2011. Mum was a kind and gentle person throughout her life, devoting herself to her family. Her patient, understanding, and loving nature was passed down to all of her children and grandchildren who meant the world to her. Her motto was "Family is everything". During her lifetime she enjoyed knitting, baking, and travelling, especially to England, Scotland and PEI. As well, she was an avid curling fan, and a long-time member of the Bridgewater Curling Club. She travelled to many curling events and bonspiels over the years. She also enjoyed golf, camping and her daily cup of Tim Horton's coffee. She loved Nova Scotia and spent a lot of time taking day trips with her husband to all parts of the province. She is survived by daughters, Heather Sayeau, Halifax; Moira (Bernie) Bolivar, Branch LaHave; son, James, Bridgewater; grandchildren, Jill (Karl Warme), Bedford; Jeffery (Amanda Oickle) Bolivar, Bridgewater; Sarah (Sebastian Ferns) Bolivar, Halifax; Nick Brown, Bridgewater. She is also survived by great-grandchildren, Miles and Chloe Warme and Bridget and Isaac Bolivar, along with two nieces and a nephew. She was predeceased by her husband, Leslie and son, Norman in infancy. No visitation by request. No visitation at the funeral home by request. A memorial service will be 11 a.m., Wednesday, July 8, in Holy Trinity Anglican Church, Bridgewater. Rev. Louis Quennelle officiating, with a reception to follow at the church hall. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the South Shore Regional Hospital Foundation or to the charity of choice. Special thanks to Dr. Christian Pugh and the 4th floor nursing staff at the South Shore Regional Hospital for their care and compassion towards our mother. Her loving and positive outlook will remain forever in the hearts of those who loved her.
