Garnet Raymond Burns
Age 92, Barss Corner, Lunenburg Co., passed away Saturday, March 7, 2015 in the Veteran’s Unit of Fishermen’s Memorial Hospital, Lunenburg, where he had been residing. Born in Barss Corner, he was a son of the late Bligh and Bessie (Milbury) Burns. He was a veteran of the Second World War, serving with the West Nova Scotia regiment, in England, Sicily, Italy and Northwest Europe. He joined the RCAF in 1951 and retired with the rank of Master Warrant Officer in 1975. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion branch 102, New Germany and the West Nova Scotia Regimental Association. Surviving are his daughter, Sherry (Beverly) Gauthier and 2 grandchildren, Nikki and Brad. He was predeceased by his wife of 66 years the former, Yvonne DeLong (Barss Corner); sisters, Mona and Freda; brothers, Harland, Lawrence and John. He will be greatly missed by his best friend, Dorothy Robar. Many thanks to the staff at the Veteran’s Unit for their excellent care. No funeral service will be held by Garnet’s request. A public legion memorial tribute will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, March 12 in Sweeny’s Funeral Home, 4895 route 10, New Germany in his honor. A private burial in Barss Corner Community Cemetery will be held at a later date. No flowers by request, donations may be made to the Fishermen’s Memorial Hospital – Veterans Unit or Barss Corner Community Cemetery.
