Obituary of Basil Joseph Comeau

Basil Joseph Comeau Age 94, Bridgewater, Lunenburg Co., passed away on Friday, November 27, 2015 in South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater. Born in Comeauville, he was a son of the late Joseph and Emilie (Bourneuf) Comeau. He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1941 where he was then stationed in Rivers, Manitoba and also trained there as a fire fighter. He served in Ontario and also Newfoundland when it was still under the British rule. He was discharged while stationed in PEI in 1946. He then moved to Liverpool and started a shoe repair business with his brother. Later he moved to Bridgewater and worked for CN Railways from 1955-1981. He was a member of St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, Bridgewater where he volunteered countless hours. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion branch 24, Bridgewater where he was a member of the color party. Basil was an avid sports fan where he enjoyed cheering for the baseball and hockey teams in the local community with his sons, Tom and David. Surviving are his sons, Stephen (Mary), Hebbville; David, Bridgewater; Michael (Sandra), Toronto; Thomas, Bridgewater; grandchildren, David, Joel, Joshua, Alexander, Jacqueline, Andrew; great grandchildren, Jacob, Theodore and Marissa; brother, Alphonse (Elizabeth) Comeau; Comeauville; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife the former Dorothy May Weagle; sisters, Maria, Odille, Josephine and Catherine; brothers, Henri, Théodore, Delbé and Adolphe. Visitation will be 7-9 p.m., today (Monday) in Sweeny’s Funeral Home, Bridgewater where a public legion tribute service will begin at 7 p.m. Funeral service will be 10 a.m., Tuesday, December 1 in St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, Bridgewater. Father Jim MacDonald, OMI, officiating. Interment will follow in St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery, Bridgewater.
