Obituary of Donald William Dorey
Donald William Dorey
Of Branch LaHave and later Bridgewater, passed away at Hillside Pines on November 9, 2015 at the age of 93. He was born on November 17, 1921 in Walden to Archibald and Jennie (Nauss) Dorey. At the age of seven the family moved to Newburne. His early working years were spent employed by several logging companies, staying in woods camps from Sunday night to Friday night. After suffering a back injury in the woods, he took up carpentry and worked with Nauss Brothers Construction for many years. Donald was also a farmer and grower of Christmas trees as well as an avid gardener. After moving to Bridgewater in 1995, he continued to grow a massive, lush vegetable garden in the back yard from which many neighbors also enjoyed its bounty, as Donald was always proud to share the fruits of his labours. Shortly after the death of his wife, Sylvia, Donald moved into the assisted living apartments at Hillside Pines, and later became a resident of the Hillside Pines nursing home where he received kind and compassionate care for the past seven years. Donald was predeceased by his parents, his wife, Sylvia (Connell), an older brother, Clyde (Shirley) and a younger brother, Lester (Irma). He was also predeceased by great-granddaughter, Larissa Wile. He is survived by daughters, Alice (Wayne) Wile; Suzanne (Kent) Jodrey; and son, Brenton (Jane) Dorey; grandchildren, Jonathan (Tracy) Wile and Jennifer (Granville) Hayward, Elizabeth and Katherine Dorey; great-grandchildren, Madison and Allison Hayward and Ronan Wile. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m., Thursday, November 12 followed by the funeral service at 11 a.m., in Sweeny’s Funeral Home, Bridgewater. Lynne McDormand officiating. Interment will follow in St. James Lutheran Cemetery, Branch LaHave. Immediate family flowers only, donations may be made to Hillside Pines Nursing Home or charity of choice.
