Obituary of Edna Louise Grimm
Edna Louise Grimm
On Wednesday, March 18, 2015, our Mom, Edna Louise Grimm left this life to join Dad in a better place. Although she desperately wanted to be home in Parkdale, Mom had been a guest of Mahone Nursing Home, Mahone Bay for the past 4 years. Born in Parkdale on February 25, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Roy and Althea (Awalt) Mosher. She was a member of the Emmanuel United Baptist Church of Parkdale/Maplewood. Mom leaves behind sons, Dwight (Barbara), Prospect/Cambridge Station; Wylie (Kate), Bridgewater; foster children, Janet (Earlen) Eisener, Farmington; Mike Smith, Trenton; sisters, Melba Sarty, Bridgewater; Iris Rafuse, Ryan Hall, Bridgewater; 6 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by husband, Roland “Ronald”; son, Ronald Jr.; brothers, William, Harry and Robert; an infant sister, Kathleen. Our Mom suffered from Alzheimer’s but her long term memory remained intact and she never forgot those close to her. Mom had her “hands full” raising three sons, sometimes we misbehaved, however even then we think she enjoyed it, always finding something positive no matter the situation. In better times, Mom loved to cook and could whip up a meal on short notice including dessert with laser precision. Nobody ever went away hungry from our house. Folks on their way to the cottages on Sherbrook Lake stopped at “Grimm’s Kitchen” where the smells of freshly baked bread, cookies, pies and rolls greeted them, all done on a wood stove with lots of birch firewood for fuel. They stocked up on her baked goods for the weekend it was a big part of their cottage life. Our Mom did not have a lot of extra cash to spend while we were growing up, but her devotion and positive outlook on life, paved the way for all of us to continue to love and value the real things that matter in life. She was totally devoted to her children and husband, who’s passing she never got over. Mom often said, “I hope I can live a bit longer than Ronald so I can look after him”; well Mom, you did it “In Spades”. Growing up, our Dad was away from home quite often making a living for his family, so Mom was our “CEO” and guiding light teaching us right from wrong in her own “special way”, we shall never forget your lessons in life you gave us and your great sense of humour. We would like to thank all the folks at Mahone Nursing Home for her great care and love over the past 5 years. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held from 2-4, 7-9 p.m., on Tuesday, March 24, 2015 in Sweeny’s Funeral Home, 4895 route 10, New Germany. A public graveside service will be held for Edna and her late husband, Ronald on Tuesday, June 9 at 10 a.m., in Parkdale Community Cemetery, Rev. Sam Jess officiating. Family flowers only please, donations may be made to Emmanuel United Baptist Church of Parkdale/Maplewood.
