Obituary of Emerson Spurgeon Harlow

Emerson Spurgeon Harlow Age 77, of Wileville, Lunenburg Co., passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Monday, February 16, 2015. Born in New Cornwall, he was a son of the late Scott Gilbert and Mildred Blanche (Dimmell) Harlow. He was a meat cutter by trade, working with T&C Co Op and previously in various other retail and management positions. He was a 30 year employee of National Sea Products. Emerson was a founding member and fire chief of Wileville and District Fire Department. He was a cub and scout leader for many years as well as a community volunteer assisting many in completing income tax returns. Emerson enjoyed cross country skiing and in summertime, barbeques, campfires, gardening, yard work and tinkering in his workshop making wine, jellies and pickles of which he shared with family and friends. He enjoyed spending time at the cottage on Lake Mush-a-Mush, fishing and boating and was an avid reader, enjoyed music and travelling. Surviving are his wife, Gloria Fay (Young); children, Karen (David) Killam, Maitland, Lunenburg Co.; Michael Harlow, Prospect; Teena Harlow, Wileville; grandsons, Scott (Candice) Killam, Sean Killam. There will be no visitation at the funeral home by request. A Celebration of Life will take place at a later date. No flowers please, donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association, Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia or charity of choice. Special thanks to the doctors who cared for Emerson, the palliative care team, Home Support and Continuing Care staff for their care and compassion to fulfill his wish to remain in his home until the end.
