Obituary of Mansfield Roy Hirtle

Mansfield Roy Hirtle Of West Dublin died Saturday December 5 2015, at the South Shore Regional Hospital, age of 91. He is survived by his wife of sixty four years Eula Hirtle (Croft), daughter Cathy Dunn, husband Stephen, son Blake Hirtle, wife Yvonne, grandchildren Kyle, Joshua, Brianna and Valerie, great grandchildren Cale & Emma; his brother Gilbert his wife Olla, sisters in law Dianne Hirtle and Sandra Frank; brother-in-law Wendell Croft. He is also survived by his nieces Kristine, Karen, Carla and nephews Brian, Bertram, Blaine, Cory and Douglas. Mac, as he was affectionally known, was born November 12 1924, at home on Bell Island being the oldest son of a family of eight children of Ralph Hirtle and wife Mae (Powers). He was predeceased by his sisters Izah and Marjorie, brother Byron and three siblings who died shortly after birth. He started inshore fishing with his father at the age of five sometimes being carried into the boat very early in the mornings. He continued fishing until the age of eighty three, being interested in how (the boys) were doing up until his death. At twenty five he met the love of his life Eula Winifred Croft from West Dublin and after marriage they moved to Hirtle Island where they lived until his retirement, still spending summers on the Island. Funeral arrangements provided by Sweeny’s Funeral Home, Bridgewater. Visitation will be from 7 to 9 pm on Monday Dec 7 in Sweeny's Funeral Home, Bridgewater. The funeral will be held from West Side United Church, Pentz at 2:30 pm on Tuesday Dec. 8. Rev Neil McEwen will officiate, burial to follow at Brookside Cemetery, West Dublin. A Reception will be held at West Side United Church after the internment. Flowers requested from the immediate family only while memorial donations to the charity of choice or Shaid Animal Shelter.
