Obituary of Mary Ellen Norman

Mary Ellen Norman 85 of Bridgewater passed away peacefully Thursday, January 1, 2015 at the South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater after a brief battle with cancer. Born in Greenwood Square, she was the daughter of the late Howe and Bessie (Parker) Spinney. Mary retired in the mid 70’s after a 25 year career with Maritime Tel & Tel, having worked in their Middleton office. She and her late husband Edgar Norman enjoyed travelling in Canada, the United States, Europe and Thailand. In earlier years she played golf and after moving to Drumlin Hills she enjoyed her social times with her friends playing bridge as well as many other activities. Her family was always first and foremost, especially when it came to Christmas, birthdays and any other special family events. She will be deeply missed. Mary is survived by step-grandchildren Bruce Norman, Angela Norman, and Cherie (David) Jollimore, Brina Norman; three step-great grandchildren Erin, Kate, and Noah Jollimore; nieces, Janice (Peter) Foy, Glenna (Mike) Westervelt, Wynne (Tim) Crowe, nephews, Tom (Elizabeth) Spinney, Alan (Diana) Spinney; great nieces Mary Spinney, Sarah Keddy, great nephews Matthew Spinney, Tyler Craig; one great great niece, two great great nephews and sister-in-law Irene Spinney. She was predeceased by her husband Edgar; brothers, Ellis and Clare and sister-in-law Jackie Spinney; step-sons Ricky and Brian. Visitation will be held from 1:00 - 3:00 pm Sunday, January 4, 2015 in the Middleton Funeral Home, 398 Main St., (902) 825-3448 followed by visitation from 6:00 - 8:00 pm in Sweeny’s Funeral Home 51 Phoenix St, Bridgewater, (902) 543-2587. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 am Monday, January 5, 2015 in Holy Trinity Anglican Church, Bridgewater, Rev. Frances Boutilier officiating. Private family interment will be in St. John’s Anglican Cemetery, Halifax. By request, family flowers only.
