Obituary of Douglas Barnett Oickle
Douglas "Buster" Barnett Oickle
Age 77, of Bridgewater passed away on Wednesday October 7, 2015 in South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater. Born in Bridgewater, he was the son of the late Victor and Geraldine (Joudrey) Oickle. Buster is survived by his wife of 52 years, Marilyn; daughter, Kimberly Oickle, Baker Settlement; sons, Kirk Oickle, Bridgewater; Kory (Sarah Hinckley) Oickle, Pine Grove; sister, Koreen Whalen, Bridgewater, brother, Eric (Mary) Oickle, Bridgewater; grandchildren, Amy, Brad, Claire and Hayden, along with several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his half-sister, Betty Joudrey; half-brothers, Sonny and Donald Joudrey. In his early years, Buster enjoyed playing hockey and helped the Bridgewater Hawks win 2 Nova Scotia Intermediate Championships. Later on in life, he always made time to proudly watch his sons and his grandson play minor hockey. For over 50 years, Buster owned and operated Oickle’s Bottle Exchange alongside his father Victor. He was well known in the community for his sense of humour and outgoing personality. In his spare time, Buster enjoyed the occasional beer at his hunting camp with his buddies. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Sweeny’s Funeral Home, Bridgewater. There will be no visitation by request. Funeral service will be held 2 pm, Tuesday, October 13 in St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Bridgewater, Rev. Paul Jensen officiating. A private family interment will be held at a later date. Family flowers only, please. Memorial donations may be made to the Health Services Foundation of the South Shore or the charity of choice.
