Obituary of Col. Robert Graham Richards
Col. Robert Graham "Bob" Richards, CD2 (Ret'd)
Age 68, passed away Thursday, July 30, 2015 at home. Born in Halifax, he was the son of the late James Patterson and Dorothy (Pollock) Richards. Bob retired from the Canadian Forces after 36 wonderful years of service. He had a very successful career during which he dedicated his professional life to the military. He had a great love for life and people, and he was energized by really getting to know the people whom he met during his various postings to such places as Quebec City, Lahr, Germany, twice in Winnipeg, MB, Moose Jaw, SK, Cold Lake, AB, Toronto, ON, Borden, ON, Ottawa, ON and Washington, DC. His positivity was contagious and reassuring when times were tough for the people around him. As the senior Logistician within the Air Force, “Officer” Bob mentored many of the most successful and senior Air Supply and Transport Officers serving our country today. He always wanted to retire to Nova Scotia which he referred to as God’s country. He settled easily into retirement and became an avid gardener, boater and community volunteer. He loved to share stories, especially over a bottle of fine red wine. Boating the LaHave River and Islands on his treasured Camelot was very special. Surviving is his loving wife of 44 years, Cheryl (Williams), West LaHave; sister, Margaret Ann Clarke (Christopher), Liverpool, NS; brother-in-law, Pat (Toni) Williams, Warren, PA; brother-in-law, Ray Williams (Carole Taylor), Bainesville, ON; sister-in-law, Debbie Williams (Danny McCarthy), Windsor, ON; many nephews, nieces, and great nephews and great nieces, and of course his most loving pets, Casey & Missy. A celebration of life service will be held 2 p.m., Monday, August 24 in Sweeny’s Funeral Chapel, Bridgewater, Rev. Simon Davies officiating. Special thanks to the LaHave Volunteer Fire Department and the EHS who responded quickly. Family flowers only, memorial donations may be made to the LaHave Volunteer Fire Department, or a charity of choice. Online condolences may be made by visiting www.sweenysfuneralhome.com.
