Obituary of Isobel Gwendolyn Sarty

Isobel Gwendolyn "Gwen" Sarty Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of His saints. (Ps. 116:15) To depart, and be with Christ; which is far better. (Phil. 1:23) 94, of Bridgewater, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, Aug. 22, surrounded by her family in South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater. Born in North Sydney, Gwen was the daughter of the late William Henry and Irene Emily (Rice) Tutty. At an early age, she moved with her family to Brooklyn, Queens Co. She was a graduate of Liverpool High School and the Victoria General Hospital School of Nursing. During her career as a VON nurse in Halifax, Gwen continued to pursue her love of skating where she caught the eye of a handsome young man, Arnold Sarty, who asked her "for a skate." So began a 54-year romance. Gwen and Arnold continued to skate together through a long and happy marriage which provided each with a lifetime of love, joy and affection. Gwen and Arnold lived for many years in Halifax until Arnold's retirement from the post of Auditor-General of the Province of Nova Scotia, whereupon they moved to Bridgewater. They continued to spend many happy hours with their family at "The Farm" in South Brookfield, Queens Co., creating indelible memories for their two children and seven grandchildren. Gwen was a loving and selfless wife, mother and grandmother. She was a devoted Christian with a deep love for the Lord and displayed the scriptural quality of godliness with contentment (I Timothy 6:6). She will be greatly missed! Gwen is survived by her daughter, Susan (Michael) Mason; son, Stephen (Ruby) Sarty; grandchildren, Capt. Jacob Sarty, Andrew (Miranda) Sarty, Rebecca Sarty, Samara (John) Gosling, Ryan (Ashley) Mason, Susannah Mason and Zach Mason; great-grandchildren, Elijah and Elianna Gosling; sisters-in-law, Barb Tutty, Gail Tutty and Joan Tutty; nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by her husband, "Arnie"; sister, Marg Purves; brothers, Brent Tutty, Briar Tutty and Bill Tutty. Visitation will be held 6:00 to 8:00 P.M., Thursday August 27 and also 1:00 to 2:00 P.M., Friday August 28 prior to the service at 2:00 P.M. Visitation and service to be held in Sweeny’s Funeral Home, Bridgewater. Service will be conducted by Capt. Jacob Sarty, Gwen’s grandson. Burial will follow in Pleasantville Cemetery.
