Obituary of Reginald Patton Ungar

Reginald Patton Ungar Was born in Waseca, Saskatchewan on October 19, 1924 and passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 11, 2015. Reg was the son of Schuyler and Jessie (Patton) Ungar. A gentleman of many talents he left his home farm for Marathon Paper Mills of Canada/American Can of Canada, Marathon, Ontario, a new pulp town on the north shore of Lake Superior. Here he met and married Irene (Westhaver) from Mahone Bay, Nova Scotia on July 6, 1951. Throughout his career, Reg was an elder of St. John’s United Church, Board Member of Lake Superior School Board and Chairman of Wilson Memorial General Hospital, Marathon, along with golfing and curling. He is survived by his wife, Irene, of 64 years; daughter, Elizabeth, of Sidney, B.C.; sons, Robert (Loretta), Sudbury, Ontario and William (Susan) of Marriott’s Cove, N.S.; three grandchildren, Marc, Christina and Paul; and one great grandchild Reid. Reg was predeceased by his parents; brother, John (Betty); sister, Elizabeth in infancy. There will be no visitation at the funeral home by request. Celebration of Life for Reg will take place 2 p.m., Tuesday, July 14, at Bridgewater United Church, Bridgewater. Rev. David Campbell officiating. A reception will follow in the church auditorium. Flowers from the family only, thank you, donations may be made to Bridgewater United Church Memorial Fund, South Shore Health Foundation - Palliative Care or charity of your choice.
