Obituary of Ella LaVaughn Varner

Ella LaVaughn (Lightfoot) Varner Age 80 of Lake Pleasant, Annapolis Co., passed away on Thursday December 31, 2015 in Mahone Nursing Home, Mahone Bay. Born in Melvern Square, Annapolis Co., she was a daughter of the late Percy and Margaret (Morse) Lightfoot. Ella is survived by her husband of 63 years, Fletcher; daughter Wanda (Wayne) Naugler, Hebbville; sons Steven (Ann) Varner, Bedford; Brian (Anne-Marie) Varner, Toronto; Blair (Nancy) Varner, Lower Branch; sister Marguerite Brown, Kingston; grandchildren Neil, Matthew, Danielle, Derek and Jay; great grandchildren Mattaya, Liam, Elliott, Hazel and Gage along with many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by sisters Glendora (in infancy), Ethel England and Patricia MacDonald; brother Karl Lightfoot. Mom was a homemaker who cared deeply for her own family and children , and her grandchildren who she enjoyed teaching to ride bicycles and supervise while swimming at the lake. She was an avid reader, loved all types of music, and was well known for her daily walks. She loved animals, and her favourite childhood memories were time spent with her father and the horses. A very special thanks to Dr. Raymond and the Mahone Nursing Home staff for their outstanding care and compassion. Visitation will be held 6:00 to 8:00 P.M., Monday January 4 in Sweeny’s Funeral Home, 4895 Highway 10, New Germany. A Celebration of Life service will be held 2:00 P.M., Tuesday January 5 in Springfield Baptist Church, Rev. Lloyd Gillieo officiating and Rev. Robert Gates assisting. A reception will follow in the church vestry. Burial will be at a later date in Springfield Baptist Cemetery. Family flowers only, please. Memorial donations may be made to the Springfield Baptist Cemetery; Alzheimer’s Society of Nova Scotia or the charity of choice.
