Obituary of Perry Elroy Veinot

Perry Elroy Veinot Age 93, West Northfield, Lunenburg Co., passed away on Thursday, September 24, 2015 in South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater. Born in Union Square, he was a son of the late Edwin and Eva (Veinot) Veinot. Perry enlisted with the Halifax Riffles and then with the Canadian Grenadier Guards 23rd Army Tank – 4th Division, to serve in the Second World War. He served overseas in active battle in England, France, Belgium, Holland and Germany. Perry was proud to have made four return visits to celebrate the Liberation of Holland. He was a member and served as a councillor for St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church for 12 years, West Northfield; member of the Northfield and District Fire Department until illness forced his retirement; He has been a member for 58 years of the Royal Canadian Legion, branch 24, Bridgewater. Perry was a retired employee of 25 years with Bowater Mersey Paper Company. Surviving are his wife, Greta (Knox) Veinot; daughters, Darlene (Jeff) Bishop, Maxine Veinot, all of West Northfield; Donna (Johnny) Van’tHof, Barss Corner; grandchildren, Stephanie (Joel) Rafuse, Windsor; Justin (Tonya) Van’tHof, Barss Corner; Josh (Jessica) Van’tHof, Travis Bishop, Sullee Rhodenizer, Blake Rhodenizer all of West Northfield; Jan Bishop (Ryan McDonald), Vancouver; great grandchildren, Haley Rafuse, Brooklyn Rafuse both of Windsor; Liam Van’tHof, West Northfield; many nieces and nephews. Perry was predeceased by his parents; sisters, Zelda, Charlotte, Roxy, Frances and Rheba; brothers, Keith, Cameron, Russell, Max, Donald and Percy. Visitation will be 7-9 p.m., Thursday in Sweeny’s Funeral Home, Bridgewater with the Royal Canadian Legion, branch 24, Bridgewater offering a public tribute service at 7 p.m. Service of celebration for Perry’s life will be held 11 a.m., Friday, October 2 in St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church, West Northfield, Rev. Catharine House officiating. Interment will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery, West Northfield. Reception will be held in the West Northfield Community Hall, West Northfield. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church or Royal Canadian Legion, branch 24, Bridgewater.
