Obituary of Pauline Vivian Veinotte
Pauline Vivian Veinotte
Age 90, died peacefully on January 4, 2015 in West Northfield, Lunenburg Co., at home - the home where she was born on August 13, 1924. She was the daughter of the late James “Robert” and Eva Flo Ella (Wentzell) Langille. On April 8, 1944 Pauline married Lester Eugene Veinotte, and with him, soon moved happily back to her family home. Together they began a rewarding family life raising two sons and a daughter; a successful working life establishing Veinotte's Chain Saw Sales &Service, SkyVue Drive-In Theatre, L.E. Veinotte & Sons Ltd. Well Drilling and Victoria Ridge; and a generous community life with participation and leadership in a wide variety of church, fraternal, social, and service organizations. Alongside her husband who was the first Fire Chief of the Northfield and District Fire Department, she became the first President of the Fire Department Auxiliary. She later became an untiring leader and worker for the West Northfield Community Centre. Pauline was an active member of St. Andrew’s United Church and then at New West Pine. In 1978 she became a member of St. Andrew’s Anglican Church. She faithfully served as Sunday School Superintendent, sang in the Choir, served on the Altar Guild, sewed hangings for the church, provided and arranged altar flowers weekly. With St Andrew’s Ladies’ Guild she stitched on hundreds of quilts, and even provided a large upper room in her home for quilting. For 18 years, she co-ordinated the roast beef meal for the Parish of New Germany’s very successful dinner theatre. She was an active member of a number of fraternal organizations including IODE, Royal Purple, Daughters of the Nile, and her beloved Eastern Star, where she had earned her 50 year pin and in 2013 she received a special honorary jewel for outstanding service and dedication to Mae Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star. She also served for a number of years as Treasurer of the Bridgewater Masonic Society. One of her favorite things was to organize and prepare dinners, suppers and receptions. She was always calm in the kitchen, quality and quantity were priorities, and her attention to detail was ‘legend’. The napkin would be in the right place and of course, there would be tablecloths and centrepieces! She usually arrived at these events with her big green Cadillac filled with roasters, pots, desserts, folded napkins, dozens of homemade rolls, and often her much loved shortbread cookies. She loved her home and loved to share it. It was the site of many family gatherings, church picnics, outdoor services, receptions, yard sales, potluck meals, and a Shrine Club barbecued chicken for a mere 200! Pauline continued her keen interest and contributions to her church and community until just days before her death, with her last tray of shortbread cookies sent to the Anglican-Lutheran Potluck. Her generosity and her example has made her community a better place and she has enriched many lives. Pauline will continue to be much loved by her sons, Eugene (Lana) Veinotte, Bruce (Heather) Veinotte, all of West Northfield; daughter, Catherine (Foard) Robar, Meisners Section; grandchildren, Andy (Cheryl) Veinotte, Anne Veinotte, Angela (Nathan) Hirtle, Bryce (Christine) Veinotte, Robyne (Abdel) Ahmed, Mark (Mandi) Robar, John Robar and Sarah Robar; great grandchildren, Emily, Alexander, Bronson, Jay, Timothy, Kade, Gavin, Haley, Kelsey, Makena, Korden; step great grandchildren, Dustin, Jacob, Emma; brother, Leigh (Beulah) Dauphinee, brother-in-law, Charles Lohnes, sister-in-law, Marion Veinotte; many nieces, nephews and friends. She was predeceased by her husband Lester, her parents, step father Robert “Gordon” Dauphinee, and sister Ruby Lohnes. Visitation will be 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., Thursday, January 8, 2015 at Sweeny's Funeral Home, Bridgewater (902) 543-2587.
