Obituary of Wilfrid MacKay Wile

Wilfrid MacKay Wile Age 87, formerly of Buckfield, Queens Co., and Bridgewater, passed away peacefully from Alzheimers disease at Harbour View Haven Nursing Home, Lunenburg on Wednesday, January 28, 2015, where he had been last residing. Born in Long Island, New York, he was a son of the late Laurie and Helen (MacKay) Wile. Wilfrid started working at age 14 in his father’s lumber business. He was a man of many trades; mill sawyer and operator, carpenter and in later years a building contractor with his brother, Ted, building houses in Bridgewater and cottages in Queens County. He built the church and recreation center at Greenfield, of which he was quite proud of. During his last working years, he operated a moulding mill in Buckfield. Wilfrid was an amateur radio operator, known to all as VE1BPG or VE1CT. Wilfrid received his Certificate of Proficiency in Advanced Amateur Radio in 1982. Surviving are his sister, Dawn (Percy) Sperry, Dartmouth; brothers, Donald, Cookville; Graham (Jan), Bridgewater; Kendall, LaHave Manor, Dayspring; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by brothers, Ted, Glyn, Merrill and Paige. Visitation will be from 2-4 p.m., Saturday, February 7, 2015 in Sweeny’s Funeral Home, Bridgewater. A private family interment will be held in Maple Grove Cemetery, Chelsea. No flowers by request, donations may be made to the Alzheimers Society of Nova Scotia, Greenfield Fire Department or charity of choice.
