Obituary of Pierre Jules Lucien Allaine

Pierre Jules Lucien Allaine Born December 30, 1927 in Paris, France to Lucien and Andrea Allaine and passed away on Tuesday, April 5, 2016 in Bridgewater. He spent the Second World War Occupation of France at his grandmother’s farm. Due to his young age he was not suspected by the Germans so he was able to help escaped prisoners of war pass into the unoccupied French Zone by poling them in a flat barge across the Loire River. He also transported, with horse and wagon, slaughtered cattle from his grandmother’s farm to the city to feed starving civilians. Pierre became an apprentice in the butcher trade. He served his military time in Germany during the Berlin Crisis. Back in civilian life, he went to École de la Boucherie de Paris, graduating as valedictorian with over 3000 students for the region of Paris. Wanting adventure, Pierre landed in Canada in 1951 in Montreal where he drove taxi cab and sang with the Notre Dame Cathedral Choir. Then in 1954 he went to Toronto to be part of the team who opened the first Swiss Chalet on Bloor Street becoming general supervisor. Deciding to fly on his own, in 1960 he moved to San Francisco, California where he lost everything within a year. Going back to his own trade, he became partner in a wholesale meat company. When his first wife was dying of cancer, he moved back to Montreal. Later he retired to Stuart, Florida, often visiting Liverpool, Nova Scotia where he met his second wife, who he married in 1998. Pierre was predeceased by his brother, Jean Michel Allaine and his first wife, Adella May Dagley, formerly of Liverpool. He is survived by his dear wife, Blanche (Crooker) Nickerson-Allaine; three nephews and a niece; 11 grand nephews and nieces and a great-grand niece in France as well as a stepson, Andrew Nickerson and a stepdaughter, Sharon Glover; three step grandchildren and three step great-grandsons. Pierre was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 24, Bridgewater. Pierre had nothing but gratitude, wishing everyone peace. According to Pierre’s wishes, a public legion tribute and a time of memorial will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, April 9 in Sweeny’s Funeral Home, Bridgewater. Rev. Willis Ott, chaplain officiating. A reception will follow at the Royal Canadian Legion, Churchill Street, Bridgewater. Private interment will take place later in Seaside Cemetery, Brooklyn.
