Obituary of Robert J. Barnes
Robert J. Barnes, RCMP Staff Sergent (Ret'd)
With great sorrow, we, the family of Robert J. (Bob) Barnes announce his sudden passing on Wednesday, January 6, 2016 in the South Shore Regional Hospital, Bridgewater. Bob was born in Matheson, Ont., on September 29, 1946 to Albert and Dorothy (Oliver) Barnes. After completing high school, Bob attended the RCMP Depot Division and graduated in 1965. On his first posting at Inverness detachment, he met his wife, Sadie Catherine (Campbell) Barnes. They were married May 25, 1968. Throughout his career, he was posted to various detachments throughout Canada and had a very successful career in the RCMP. After retiring as Staff Sergent in Bridgewater, Bob and Sadie built their dream home on the LaHave River. Bob became heavily involved in the Bridgewater Curling Club as an avid curler, serving a term as president and was the long-time ice maker. Bob was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He is survived by his son, Robert (Jeanette), North Bay, Ont.; daughters, Kathy, Middle LaHave; Lori (Robin Carruthers), Waverley; grandchildren, Nicholas, Sydney, Rylee all of North Bay, Selena Rofihe, Waverley and Addisyn Barnes, Middle LaHave; companion, Joyce. Also left to mourn are his brothers and sisters, Gladys (Keith) Wiggins, Doris (Wilf) Arndt, Ken (Sharon) Barnes, Bonnie (Lorne) Hinz and Bill Barnes. He was predeceased by his wife, Sadie and granddaughter, Annabella Sparkle. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m., Friday, January 8 in Sweeny’s Funeral Home, Bridgewater. Funeral mass will be held 11 a.m., Saturday, January 9 in St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, Bridgewater. Rev. Keith Billard officiating. Interment for family and RCMP members will follow in Dayspring Cemetery, Dayspring. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the IWK Children’s Hospital or the Sandra Schmirler Foundation.
