Obituary of Margaret Mary Caswell
Margaret Mary "Peggy" Caswell
Age 92, of Bridgewater, formerly of Halifax, passed away peacefully at South Shore Regional Hospital in Bridgewater on October 27, 2016. Mum was born on May 31, 1924 to Michael and Ethel (Skerry) O'Leary. She married Frank Caswell in 1945 at Saint John the Baptist Church in Armdale. Together they raised three children, Judy, Michael (Caroline), and Susan (Paul) and enjoyed their eight grandchildren, Daniel, Graham (Sarah), Edward, Marion, and Liam Caswell and Anna, Anthony, and John Sampson. Besides her parents, Mum was predeceased by her loving Frankie, and brothers Jim and Terry. She was a long-time resident of Halifax who loved her city and never wanted to live anywhere else. She attended Mount Saint Vincent College and the Maritime School of Social Work, then started a career as a social worker at the Halifax Infirmary, the Alcoholism Research Foundation and the Victoria General Hospital. Mum was always kind and genuinely loved people. She had no prejudices and could not understand them in others. She loved to shop, travel and wear the colour pink. Spending time with family and friends was very important to her and she truly valued the close relationships that she formed over the years. Mum shared her beautiful voice with her community by becoming a member of the choir at Saint Thomas Aquinas Church. She had been a long time member of the Waegwoltic Club where she could be found enjoying the company of friends around the pool. She always had a good book to read. Her last few years were spent at Drumlin Hills in Bridgewater and we would like to thank the staff for being so good to Mum, particularly her special friend Tracy. Mum always gave to those in need so in lieu of flowers we would appreciate that donations go to Feed Nova Scotia or a charity of your choice. There will be no visitation but a funeral service will be held Saturday, November 5th at 10A.M. at Saint John the Baptist Church, 26 Purcell's Cove Road, in Halifax, reception to follow in the church hall.
