Obituary of Gerald Lawson Conrad

Gerald (Gerry) Lawson Conrad 82 of Bridgewater, NS. It is with profound sadness that the family of Gerald Conrad announce his peaceful passing on August 26, 2016 at the South Shore Regional Hospital. Born in Branch Lahave on March 16, 1934, he was the son of the late Kenneth and Mae (Wentzell) Conrad. Surviving are his beloved wife of 57 years Jean (Joudrey) Conrad, sons Gary (Marsha Jeffers), Michael and precious grandchildren Meredith, Gary & Ryland. Also surviving is sister Blanche Meisner, Saskatchewan. He was predeceased by brothers Sinclair and Ralph, sisters Margaret, Marjorie, Dorothy, and Bernice. He worked for Hershey Canada and was often known as “The Candy Man.” He was well respected by all who knew him and his sense of humor brought great pleasure to young and old alike. He was an active lifelong member of The Holy Trinity Anglican Church serving as Warden, Parish Council, Regional Council. He enjoyed his role as one of the founders of the Plum Pudding Factory along with starting the Men’s Breakfasts. He was President of Minor Hockey, The Traveler’s Club and a member of the Health Services Foundation. He was a proud supporter of the Liberal Party. As a volunteer he received numerous appreciation certificates. His proudest moments were those spent with the hundreds of children who sat on his knee during the 40 year span in his role of Santa. He faced his health challenges without complaint which has been an inspiration to one and all. Visitation will be held 6:00 to 9:00 P.M., Tuesday August 30 in Sweeny’s Funeral Home, Bridgewater. Funeral Service will be held 11:00 A.M., Wednesday August 31 in Holy Trinity Anglican Church, Bridgewater, Rev. Simon Davies officiating. Burial will follow in Brookside Cemetery, Bridgewater. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Holy Trinity Anglican Church, the Health Service Foundation of the South Shore or the charity of choice.
