John Edward "Ed" Cyples
It is with great sadness that the family announces Ed’s peaceful passing with his loving family by his side at South Shore Regional Hospital in Bridgewater on October 27, 2016 at the age of 91. Ed was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and friend. Born in Galt, Ontario on July 15, 1925, he was the son of the late William and Maud Cyples (Jevons). Left to grieve are his son Alan (Nancy) of Bridgewater, Nova Scotia and daughter Karen Ward of Sydney, Nova Scotia. He is also survived by his grandchildren Jason (Melissa), Matthew (Stephanie), Ryan (Kristina), Jessica and Jolene (Alphonse) and five great-grandchildren, sister Velma Wylie of Cambridge, Ontario, along with many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his loving wife Margaret on November 11, 2008. Ed was also predeceased by sisters Margaret Percival, Georgina Ford, Donna Bowman, brothers William and Lawrence. Ed was employed for 24 years with General Motors of Canada in Sales and Business Management. He owned and operated Fairway Chev-Olds Ltd. in Bridgewater for 21 years, retiring in 1995. He served during World War II in Canada, the United Kingdom and France with infantry battalions in the Second and Third Divisions of the Canadian Army. He was a Past President of the Bridgewater Chamber of Commerce, South Shore Automobile Dealers Association and Nova Scotia Automobile Dealers Association. He was also a Past Chairman of the Bridgewater Development Commission. Ed and his loving wife Marg were avid golfers and bridge players. Ed spent many hours volunteering for various organizations such as the South Shore Regional Hospital and Bridgewater Food Bank. He was also a Past Member of the Bridgewater Kiwanis Club. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Sweeny’s Funeral Home. No visitation by request. Funeral service will be held on Sunday October 30, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at Bridgewater United Church with Rev. Ronald Frampton officiating. A private family interment will follow in Brookside Cemetery. A reception will be held in Bridgewater United Church CE Center following the funeral service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ed’s memory to the Canadian Cancer Society, Lung Association of Nova Scotia or Bridgewater United Church. The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff of Ridgewood Retirement Centre, Dr. Sheila Dwyer and the nurses and staff of the 4th Floor Medical at South Shore Regional Hospital.
